Federal Tax Authority (FTA)

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) is the UAE government body responsible for administering and collecting federal taxes — including VAT and Corporate Tax. Established in 2016 under Federal Decree-Law No. 13, the FTA operates under the UAE Ministry of Finance.

Key FTA Responsibilities

The FTA registers businesses for VAT and CT, processes VAT returns and corporate tax returns, issues tax guidance, conducts field audits, and imposes penalties for non-compliance.

EmaraTax

EmaraTax is the FTA's online portal for tax registrations, return filing, refund applications, and tax profile management. All corporate tax filings are submitted through EmaraTax.

FTA Audits

The FTA can audit any business up to five years after the relevant tax period. Auditors review financial statements, general ledger records, invoices, and bank statements. Clean bookkeeping records significantly reduce audit exposure.
